Damn That Child Support

As I am aware, child support is calculated by combining both parents' income and then basically splitting it, while accounting for a percentage of the medical and childcare expenses, if there are any. If you have child support that is directed to someone else, you can deduct it from your income.

In Boston apparently some new guidelines:
...call for support payments to be calculated based primarily on income, not the expenses incurred by the parents to raise the child...the new guidelines also fail to take into account factors affecting income such as tax status, marital status, employment status and obligations to support other children.
Child support shouldn't be calculated on what is believed to be what it costs to raise a child--should it? That number would be hypothetical--hypothetically wrong. Because then there would be some across the board figure...and child expenses are different for each family, often times, largely depending on class. But some parents spend the majority of their income on their child...and I guess some don't...but that doesn't benefit the child.

Father's "advocates" are really pissed about this one saying that it is unfair and will drive them further into poverty. But the judge said it will benefit the children.

Father's standard of living decreased--child's standard of living increased. Child's standard of living increased. Let me think about this for a minute.
